What happens when you put the biggest female singers on a song that is designed as a fund raiser for cancer research? You end up with Just Stand Up, as in just stand up to cancer.

The names on this song are as follows: Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Ethridge, Natasha Bedingfield, Miley Cyrus, Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood, Keyshia Cole, Leann Rimes, Ashanti and Ciara. With the exception of Miley Cyrus and Ciara, everyone on the song can actually sing rather than being images manufactured by the corporate structure. That doesn't mean they lack sincerity, they just can't really hold a candle to the other voices on the song.

Though there is a little bit of one artist trying to out sing the others, that's probably just a natural outgrowth of so many stars that are used to doing things their way. They do a great job of checking their egos at the door in order to put this fund raiser together. But you can hear competition creeping in a little as the notes soar at times when they might not normally.

And with LA Reid and Babyface coming together on production, there is no way this isn't a hit song. No, it's not hip hop, but in this case, that's less important to the overall cause: Stand Up To Cancer . The Stand Up to Cancer telethon will air on CBS, NBC and ABC on September 5.
