Plies - Pants Hang Low

Random Lyric:
Half of the city felons
The other half got warrants
Cause they (something unintelligible)
Every first of the month

The beat is banging on the latest offering from Plies. Explaining why Bust It Baby and Please Excuse My Hands were hits is a concept that escapes us. Those songs are slow with lyrics that we can't understand because Plies won't bother to open his mouth long enough to let the words finish. When we ask about it, we're told that that's how the language is spoken in the Dirty South. If that's the truth, we have some problems in the educational system there.

To be sure, he's not opening his mouth or finishing words here either, but for whatever reason, when the song is uptempo, understanding him is easier. The subject matter, I assume, is designed to maintain his street cred after the previous two ballads by talking about wearing his pants "hood" style. In actually, it's prison style. Wearing your pants low in the joint is a sign that you are sexually available to the other inmates. That's another concept that escapes us. Given the homophobic nature of hip hop, why would you celebrate a homosexual activity?

Even though Pants Hang Low is banging musically, the lyrics leave something to be desired. We can't totally co-sign this one.
Banger or booty: both
