The-Dream featuring Mariah Carey - My Love

Is it egotistic to refer to yourself as the "American Dream?" What about referring to yourself as the "Radio Killer" when you want to make sure radio stations are playing your song? Is it hubris to think in those terms or is it youthful boasting in the style of hip hop? That's just scratching the surface of what's going on with The-Dream.

This time, he's brought out the big guns as a guest star. Mariah Carey easily out sings Dream, but that's a given. His voice is slight as he continues the trend of young male singers singing in fake tenor outside their natural range. Mrs. Cannon, on the other hand, has more range to her voice when she's telling Nick to scratch her back. It's an interesting combination.

But not that interesting. The music is limited and repetitive as is the hook. That's symptomatic of The-Dream's music and while he's been successful, it's getting to be grating, even to his fans. What we get here is light and frothy, with a nice Mariah Carey on top, but it won't you rush to open your iTunes account.
