Random Lyric:
Shady man no, don't massacre the fans
Damn, I think Kim Kardashian is a man
Uh oh, is it really over for G-Unit and Aftermath, too? Judging from the new Eminem track, it might be time to consider that. Combined with the push back of the Dr. Dre project, probably for re-tooling, we may have come to the end of an era in hip hop. Slim Shady has always been the iconocast of the main trio consisting of 50 Cent, Em and Dre and he continues that here, but it may not necessarily be a good thing.
As evidenced all over the history of hip hop, once you've made it and you don't have to hustle for money like you once did, things change and the fire gets quenched. Dr. Dre hasn't put anything out for a minute, 50's latest songs aren't as interesting as his current beef with Rick Ross and then Eminem comes with a name dropping track that worked back in the early part of the decade, but not so much anymore. Back in the day he took on icons like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Those were big name targets. In his new jam, he name drops people like Kim Kardashian. Kim Kardashian? What does she do, exactly? Other than her whooty, what is she famous for again?
The beat tries to harken back to the more playful Shady tracks, but it just sounds dated now. Add to that, it sounds like Marshall is straining to create controversy rather than let it happen organically out of his own personal demons, channeled through the music and into hit status. Perhaps they should choose another song from Relapse because I don't see people rushing to buy it based on We Made You. We liked "Crack A Bottle" much better. Problem is, we hated "Crack A Bottle."
