Random Lyric:
Sitting patient, steady waiting
For the day that I can't face it
On this song, Trey Songz does something we've never heard before. He accidentally slips into his natural singing range. Why this slipped passed the record company, we don't know. For years, they've all insisted that young male R&B singers all sound the same and for the most part, they've stifled verbal creativity in the interest their own bottom line. We're convinced that they only want singers to go so far, but not succeed too much because then they'll negotiate fair contracts. The record industry isn't know for fairness.
Don't misunderstand. He's still mostly generic sounding, but this is better generics than we're used to. The drum machine could have been more creative but the guitar loop is well done. The lyrics aren't particularly good. Whenever a singer talks about being in "the business" then you realize they haven't lived where regular people are in a long time. It's a sign that they don't relate to regular folk.
But those issues aside, we're pleasantly surprised that we like this one. Trey has done something we didn't expect. He did okay.
Banger or booty: banger
